Accounting Information for Decision-Making enhances the students' understanding of financial statement components and prepares them to use financial, managerial, and cost accounting information in making business decisions. The course also includes application of basic tax principles to the decision-making process. ACCT 8400
Capstone Project requires students
working in teams to bring together their discipline knowledge in the areas of
marketing, finance, management, accounting, and operations. Teams of students,
working under faculty guidance will work with high-growth-potential start-up
firms, developing business plans which will be presented to angle and/or venture
capital firms. The firms will be identified from UAMS Bio Ventures Incubator,
UALR's Cyber College and the Arkansas Small Business Development Center.
Students will learn the technology assessment process, identifying promising
technologies, and assessing the technological viability and the business
feasibility of each project. Completed business plans will be presented to
company management and where appropriate, potential investors. Where appropriate,
the projects will be further honed for entry into the Governor's Cup Business
Plan Competition each spring. The competition offers a total of $104,000 in
prize money and unprecedented exposure to the Arkansas business community. Applied Organizational Behavior examines organizational behavior concepts and applications, such as leadership, motivation, perception, conflict, and communication. The study emphasizes the traditional areas of organizational behavior using an experiential learning approach. MGMT 8310 Economics Principles Theory examines the economics principles theory of the individual firm in the economy; and the utility, demand theory, elasticity, cost and price determination, and strategic position of an industrial firm. ECON 8200 Economic Strategy is a systematic study of economic forces affecting the business firm and their impact on corporate strategy. ECON 8210 Field Study in International Business is an international trip that provides an opportunity for students to explore first-hand the international dimensions of business. It provides the student with the opportunity to identify and pursue strategic issues in international business and to gain consciousness of the impact of culture on business practices. Students will do extensive research on a country and prepare a report detailing business and cultural practices with political and economic components prior to travel. Upon return, students will prepare a written summary of their experiences and compare expectations prior to the field study with the realities of international business. IBUS 8300 Financial Management focuses on the application of financial management concepts to a firm. Topics include financial statement analysis, time value of money, valuation of stocks and bonds, capital asset pricing, capital budgeting, cost of capital, dividend policy, capital structure, and other special topics. FINC 8310 Financial Planning examines the two major decisions of financial managers, the investment decision and the financing decision, from the perspective of value creation. It further develops the financial theory presented in the introductory course with applications to specific cases. Topics include financial forecasting, cost of capital, capital structure, capital budgeting, long-term financing, and the market for corporate control. FINC 8311 Human Resource Management examines the contribution of the human resource management function in achieving organizational objectives and the role of upper and middle management in the establishment and implementation of human resource strategies and policies. Topics of discussion include employee selection, performance evaluation, termination, compensation and benefits, rewards systems, counseling, negotiation, and personnel/labor law. MGMT 8341 Information Systems Technology focuses on the design of end-user applications and the role of the applications in managerial/business decision-making. The course familiarizes students with basic productivity software packages and the use of Internet resources in business. MGMT 8100 Leadership Foundations defines leadership, maps leadership style for the individual, and explains its role in management. It focuses on concepts for developing strategic leadership within the organization, experience and skills for leading organizational development and change, team interaction, and styles. It draws on writings, exercises, and students' business experience to explore the foundations and techniques of organizational leadership. MGMT 8107 |
