Graduate Certificates in Management

The College of Business now offers three graduate certificates in Management:

Graduate Certificate in Management (MGMT-GC)

The Management Graduate Certificate Program is designed to provide an integrated, efficient, and orderly graduate exposure to the discipline of Management in a relatively short duration and to provide Central Arkansas residents with a foundation to facilitate entry into, as well as career progression, within the professional field of Management. This certificate program will expose students to theories of management covering human behavior in organizations, motivation, leadership, and managing people and resources.

Program Requirements:

The Management Certificate Program consists of 12 hours of coursework:

  1. Required courses (9 hours):
    • MGMT 7302* Management and Organizational Behavior
    • MGMT 7310 Organizational Behavior
    • MGMT 7341 Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations
  2. Choice of one course (3 hours):
    • MGMT 7308 Advanced Business Communication
    • MGMT 7311 Entrepreneurship
    • MGMT 7312 Team Development
    • MGMT 7335 International Management
    • MGMT 7371 Production/Operations Management
    • MGMT 8300 Seminar in Special Topics
    • One 5000-level course

*Students with an undergraduate business degree from an AACSB-accredited institution can substitute another “choice” course in place of MGMT 7302.

Notes:

  • Graduate Certificate courses can be directly applied to the MBA degree.
  • Graduates with a 3.25 GPA may continue in the MBA program without a GMAT requirement.

Graduate Certificate in Management Information Systems (MGIS-GC)

The MIS Graduate Certificate is designed to provide a focused collection of coursework in management information systems by providing students pertinent knowledge and skills necessary to enter into or progress in their careers in the IS field. The program is designed for post-baccalaureate students and working professionals who are interested in enhancing their current technical and managerial skills for career advancement or preparation for entering a master’s degree program.

Program Requirements:

The Graduate Certificate in Management Information Systems consists of 12 hours of course work:

  1. Required courses (6 hours):
    • MGMT 7305 Advanced Database Management Systems
    • MGMT 7307 Systems Analysis and Design Methods
  2. The remaining 6 hours should be selected from the following:
    • MGMT 7302 Management and Organizational Behavior
    • MGMT 7303 Systems Development and Database Design
    • MGMT 7304 Business Applications in Object-Oriented Programming
    • MGMT 7308 Advanced Business Communications
    • MGMT 7312 Team Development
    • MGMT 7350 Information Systems Management
    • MGMT 7352 Emerging Technologies and Strategic Issues
    • Not more than one of
      • MGMT 5310 Advanced Local Area Networks
      • MGMT 5312 Object-Oriented Programming
      • MGMT 5350 Database Management Systems

Graduate Certificate in MIS Leadership (ISLR-GC)

The Graduate Certificate in Information Systems Leadership is designed to provide the technology professional a focused collection of coursework to build proficiency in areas essential to IS leadership. The program is designed for post-baccalaureate students and working professionals with an MIS or related background who are interested in moving into leadership roles within their organization or in preparation for entering a master’s degree program.

Program Requirements:
The Graduate Certificate in Information Systems Leadership consists of 15 hours of coursework:

  1. Required courses (12 hours):
    • MGMT 7307 Systems Analysis and Design Methods
    • MGMT 7312 Team Development
    • MGMT 7350 Information Systems Management
    • MGMT 7352 Emerging Technologies and Strategic Issues
  • One course from the following:
    • MGMT 7302 Management and Organizational Behavior
    • MGMT 7303 Systems Development and Database Design
    • MGMT 7304 Business Applications in Object-Oriented Programming
    • MGMT 7305 Advanced Database Management Systems
    • MGMT 7308 Advanced Business Communications
